About Us

Ashtanga Yoga Dublin is run by husband and wife David Collins and Paula Herbert and provides daily Yoga classes for all levels of student, from absolute beginners to teachers. This is their second decade of following their vocation to bring authentic Yoga to as many people as possible.

Who we are

Ashtanga Yoga Dublin is different to a Yoga Studio in that David and Paula teach all of the classes, allowing them to get to know each student personally. They are specialists in Ashtanga Yoga, trained in the most traditional way and authorised by Manju Pattabhi Jois, the most senior Ashtanga teacher in the world, to pass on this traditional practice.

With the depth of knowlege of 20 years of practice and teaching experience, Paula and David work with each student individually, teaching them a Yoga practice that is tailored to their needs, helping them cope with the stresses and pressures of modern life and making the great benefits of this Yoga available to everyone, young and old alike. We are the only full-time, dedicated traditional Ashtanga Yoga school in Ireland.

The aim of the school is to help students to develop a personal Yoga practice to improve their health by increasing vitality and reducing stress.

Our Ethos

In Yoga the teacher/student relationship is key to one's development. At Ashtanga Yoga Dublin we get to know each student and work with them on an individual basis, focusing on their specific needs and particular requirements. Everyone learns the same practice but in a way which is appropriate to them, as each body is different, each person's breath is different, as is everyone's experience and expectation.

Come and learn in Yoga in a way that is designed to suit you, and in an environment that is calm and clear. Develop a practice that is appropriate for you specifically and which will evolve and change according as you need it too. Many of our students have been with us for many years now and have gone from being Beginners to, in some cases, being Teachers as well. Yoga can create the conditions for a healthy life, for less stress and worry, for more vitality and enjoyment, which especially these days, is exactly what we all need.

Where We Are

Ashtanga Yoga Dublin is in 16 Main St., Blackrock, Co. Dublin. The entrance to the school is on Idrone Lane to the rear of the building. From the reception area, steps lead down to the Changing Rooms, each with shower facilities, and to the brand new Yoga Shala itself, where all classes take place. The School is close to all amenities in Blackrock, with ample parking in the locality, either 1 minute away at the DART Station or in Blackrock or Frascati Shopping Centres, each 5 mins away. For a map of the location see the Contact Us page.

Classes and Workshops

The School has classes 7 days a week, and runs Introductory Courses for beginners every 4 weeks. All classes are pure Ashtanga Yoga and are taught in the traditional 'Mysore-style', exactly as they are by our Guru, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, at his Shala in India.

Have a look at our full class timetable here.

For those who would like to explore their Yoga practice in greater depth, the school runs an ongoing One Year Intensive Course, 'The Heart of Yoga'. For full details on this course click here.

As well as the regular classes, the School also hosts Workshops given by teachers authorised and certified by Pattabhi Jois. This is a very important aspect of the School's programme, bringing to Ireland some of the foremost teachers of Ashtanga Yoga.
