Asthanga Yoga is a prescriptive for life. As a medical doctor, after years of clinical practice, I can advise it as the best form of preventative medicine.

I have learnt through the practice of Ashtanga Yoga that with discipline and focus of the mind anything is possible.

The practice has become less of a chore for me and more a way of life. I have so much to learn and a very long way to go, which is really challenging me, but I am enjoying the journey.

I decided to try Ashtanga Yoga after hearing what a good physical workout it was. My idea was to use it as part of a fitness programme along with running and gym-based workouts. On arriving at my beginners class I was seduced by the beauty and grace of the practice as demonstrated by the teachers, David and Paula, and was inspired towards making an attempt to perform the postures I saw demonstrated.

A year and a half later I have found that the regular practice of Ashtanga Yoga has become the only physical exercise I need. The balance of strength, stamina, poise and flexibility which I have gained through the practice has been an inspiration to me. Beside the physical benefits, however, is a sense that I have unlocked a part of my conciousness, which I never expected; a part, in fact, which I never even knew existed.

So through ...

Clare McKeown I have been a student at Ashtanga Yoga Dublin for 2 years, and this year have enjoyed doing the Heart of Yoga course with David and Paula. David often reminds us how Guruji told his students, “Practice, and all is coming”, and we get to experience the truth of that over and over again as we just show up on our mats every day.  One of the things that drew me to ashtanga yoga is that all you need, at any point in your experience, is a simple willingness to show up and explore your own limits.

Ashtanga yoga challenges everyone individually.  Everyone learns the same postures, in the same way; there are no short cuts and it’s hard at times.  Yet this is a deeply rewarding practice that gives back to you what you give to it in abundance.  Practicing Mysore style means we all get to work ...read more

Eimear Saunders Having never tried yoga before, I started with the beginner’s course in January 2010. I was hoping it would help me find a quiet place inside myself and possibly help with recently developed asthma. On the first day, I was taken aback by how athletic Ashtanga yoga is, and I felt like I was in over my head, but I was also struck by its beauty and the grace and ease with which David, Paula, Melanie and Ann demonstrated it. And so my journey began…
I was shown the postures in a way that I could understand and as many times as was required before I could do it independently. Everything was (and continues to be) focused on my abilities and needs, and at no time have I ever felt inadequate, this is more about making my own personal practice work for me than doing everything perfectly.
The results ...read more

Robert Keily From no previous experience my yoga practice started 12 months ago. To fully benefit I quickly discovered one needs to make a considerable time commitment. I have found this commitment very rewarding in both physical and mental development. The help, support and patience from the instructors is excellent.

I feel my practice has constantly evolved albeit slowly to allow me more peace and harmony in my generally hectic life. I hope I enjoy the 2010 progression as much as the last 12 months.

Claudia Schmid I started coming to Ashtanga Yoga Dublin, Blackrock, in 2007 after several years’ of once-a-week Ashtanga yoga classes. I then started the regular 6 am Mysore classes with David and Paula. Mind you, I am not a morning person, but I have come to enjoy attending Mysore classes before work.
Yoga has gently nudged itself into my life and transformed it. I was drawn to Ashtanga yoga from the very beginning. First I was taken by its physical aspect and enjoyed the physical challenge of stretching, complementing my aerobic outdoor training and stretching my body in a lot of different ways. Even after the first few classes I felt happy and very relaxed while lying in Shavasa after my practice.
Yoga has taught me that there is more than the option of biting the bullet with clenched teeth and forcing yourself head first through all sorts of situations. It has ...read more
