John Forde

I decided to try Ashtanga Yoga after hearing what a good physical workout it was. My idea was to use it as part of a fitness programme along with running and gym-based workouts. On arriving at my beginners class I was seduced by the beauty and grace of the practice as demonstrated by the teachers, David and Paula, and was inspired towards making an attempt to perform the postures I saw demonstrated.

A year and a half later I have found that the regular practice of Ashtanga Yoga has become the only physical exercise I need. The balance of strength, stamina, poise and flexibility which I have gained through the practice has been an inspiration to me. Beside the physical benefits, however, is a sense that I have unlocked a part of my conciousness, which I never expected; a part, in fact, which I never even knew existed.

So through the practice I have made the first baby steps towards achieving the effortless grace, which was demonstrated by David and Paula at my first class and towards achieving physical, mental and spiritual well-being. I feel as if I've been let in on a big secret!
