What Is Yoga Authorisation?

Authorisation is part of the Indian tradition of Parampara, meaning the direct passing on from Guru to student of the knowledge and practices of Yoga. This traditional method of oral transmission, is extremely ancient, to the extent that it is referred to in Chapter 4 of the Bhagavad Gita, as having begun at the very start of time! When a student is deemed by the Teacher to be sufficiently experienced and proficient in their understanding of the practice, they are given Authorisation to teach others.

In the Ashtanga Yoga tradition, which is said to have begun with Sage Vamana Rishi, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, was taught by Krishnamacharya, who was taught by Rama Mohan Brahmacharya, and the lineage continues back through the centuries. Pattabhi Jois is said to have know the lineage right back to the 14th Century

Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Authorisation

Manju Pattabhi Jois is the first teacher trained to teach Ashtanga by his late father, Guru Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. He has been teaching now for over 45 years and Paula and David are privileged to have him as their teacher. They are very happy and very humbled to have been given his Authorisation to teach.
