This weekend is about personal development; about getting to know yourself at the more subtle levels of your being. 

Over the course of the workshop we will explore the subtle energy system, through the seven major energy centres (Chakras). The human energy field is affected by touch, diet, sound, attitudes and beliefs, relationships, life experience, trauma and environmental factors.

When energy flows efficiently without any major blockages, we have a strong foundation for good health. Once we understand how energy moves through the body and how this energy flow affects our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being, we can use specific chakra balancing techniques to optimise the vibration of each energy centre, bringing body, mind and spirit into harmony and restoring our natural state of wholeness.

Friday Evening:

  • Chakra Meditation
  • Asana (posture) practice to tune into the Chakras
  • Chakra Yoga Nidra
On Saturday we will examine each chakra in detail. The physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of each will be discussed. The sessions will include time to explore any issues that may surface for participants with the Chakra, as well as meditation and balancing techniques, including Yoga asana, to allow for introspection and the development of self-awareness.

Paula has been a teacher and co-director at Ashtanga Yoga Dublin since 2004. She is authorised to teach traditional Ashtanga by Manju Pattabhi Jois. Prior to teaching yoga, Paula worked in the corporate environment in sales and marketing for 14 years. During this time she also studied Energetic Massage Therapy and Polarity Therapy/Counselling for 4 years as well as completing a 4-year Dilpoma in the Practice and Philosophy of Hatha Yoga. She is a registered Polarity Therapist and works with individual clients to facilitate the release of blockages and holding patterns on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels, helping to restore the energy field to optimum condition.

About the Workshop

Der Workshop ist geeignet für jeden Student, ob Anfänger oder erfahrener Praktikant. David hat mehr als 20 Jahre Erfahrung als Yoga Lehrer und unterrichtet vom Herzen, und vermittelt sein Wissen auf entspannter und humorvoller Weise. Wenn es um Yoga Praxis geht, stellt David drei Fragen als Ausgangspunkt des Workshops: 

  • Was tun wir und wie tun wir es?
  • Warum tun wir es?
  • Mit welcher Absicht tun wir es?
Uns mit diesen drei Fragen auseinanderzusetzen ist das Ziel des Wochende. Wir werden die Techniken von Asana und Pranayama üben, und werden versuchen dieses auf sanfter und effektiver Art zu machen, um daß unsere Praxis immer mit weniger äußerlichen Anstrengung gemacht wird, und uns eher mit einer inneren Energie verbindet, das wir Kraft, Gesundheit und Sanftmut entwickeln. Dazu besprechen wir was das eigentliche Ziel des Yogas ist, nämlich Gesundheit, Freude am Leben, Mitgefühl und Aufmerksamkeit zu entwickeln. Wir werden die Weisheiten der alten Yoga Texten verwenden, um zu verstehen wie wir am besten üben können um diese Freude zu erreichen. Wir werden mit Körper, Geist, und Atem arbeiten um die Seele des Yogas zu entdecken, und vor allem, wir werden dabei Spaß haben!

About Peter

Peter Sanson is one of New Zealand’s and the world's foremost teachers & practitioners of Ashtanga Yoga.
Since meeting his Guru Sri K Pattabhi Jois in 1989, Peter has travelled to Mysore, India, every year to continue his studies. Peter holds an Advanced ‘B’ teaching certificate issued by the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute, one of few teachers at this level of certification.

He engages each student at their own level with a lightness and sensitivity developed over 22 years of teaching experience.
Peter invites all students from absolute beginners to advanced practitioners to attend.

The workshop will be Mysore style classes - the traditional way of teaching this ancient practice, as it was taught to Peter by his beloved Guru, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.

Tuesday to Friday: First start time: Earliest 6am. Latest, no later than 6:45 am (probably!)

Also Saturday: Pranayama, Chanting and Q and A with Manju. 

Take the opportunity to talk to Manju and bring up any questions you may have about the practice, yoga in a broader context, Guruji or any other topic. This session is free and open to all workshop participants irrespective of what days you are signed up for.

About Manju

Born on November 16th, 1944, Manju Jois is the son of Guruji, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. At the age of 7, Manju was awakened early each day by his father to begin lessons that would forever change the course of his life and the lives of those who would study with him in the years to come. He began teaching at the age of 15 with his father and has taught continuously for the last 45 years.

It was in 1975 that they taught a two-month workshop to eager students in California. This was the first time that Ashtanga yoga was brought to the U.S. Manju decided to stay in the U.S. and teach and he has been doing so continuously on the east and west coasts and internationally ever since. Nearly 35 years since Guruji and Manju first brought Ashtanga to the U.S., it has grown to be one of the most popular forms of Yoga in the West, practised by millions, and Pattabhi Jois a now a world-renowned Guru. Manju's intention is to teach in the way of the ancient tradition and bring the many benefits of Ashtanga yoga to his students. It is our great privilege and pleasure to have him come to share his great depth of knowledge of the practice with us.

      Join us in Montefiore dell'Aso, in the beautiful province of Ascoli Piceno, on the Adriatic coast of Italy, for a nurturing, rejuvenating yoga holiday. Practice in the idyllic surroundings of the retreat centre; enjoy locally-sourced, home-cooked vegetarian food throughout your stay; choose from a variety of afternoon activities:

·   Explore the renaissance village of Montefiore dell’Aso with its piazzas, churches & winding streets (10 min walk)
·   Visit the sea side towns of San Benedetto del Tronto or Porto San Giorgio
.   Take a trip to the historic medieval city Ascoli Piceno, capital of the province
·   Unwind at one of the local beaches

Programme and Daily Schedule

Saturday 15th

Arrive during the course of the day. Evening meal at around 19.30.

Sunday - Friday

06:45 - 09:00: Pranayama and Mysore style practice.

(A note about Mysore: In these classes each student is taught individually, allowing them to develop their practice at a pace suitable for them and with any appropriate modifications. This allows beginners and more experienced students to practice side by side and both get the guidance they need and at the right level.) 

09:30: Breakfast. 

13:00: Lunch 

Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday Only 

16.30 – 18.00: Yoga Talks on topics from the Yoga Sutra and Bhagavada Gita that can help us relate Yoga to our experiences in daily life, obstacles to Yoga, and answers to any other questions participants have. Also, Asana Techniques, themes to include Hip-opening, back-bending, or any other postures students have questions about. The other afternoons are free to allow participants time to explore the beautiful locality, from the medieval town of Montefiore dell’Aso, to the beautiful nearby beaches or the bigger towns of San Benedetto del Tronto and Porto San Giorgio or, further afield, to the Monti Sibillini National Park. 

Sunday - Friday 

18:30: Dinner

20:00 - 21:00: Chanting, Meditation and Deep Relaxation 

Saturday 21st

Depart in the course of the morning. Breakfast is the only meal this day.


Retreat Fees

Total cost: €795pps per week. Includes all yoga classes, accommodation, 3 vegetarian meals, use of the swimmimg pool and other facilities. (A supplement is payable for a single room.)  

A deposit of €400 is required to secure a place.
Balance of  €395 payable by 15th June 2015 (~8 weeks before Retreat).

NOTA BENE: Cancellations.

Before 15th June 2015: Refund possible.
After 15th June 2015:  Once full fee has been paid, a refund is possible only in the case that the place is taken up by someone else.

Travel Insurance: We advise everyone to have Travel Insurance to cover them for the eventuality that they do have to cancel.  

Please note that the retreat price does not include travel. The yoga centre can organise to collect you at local Train or Bus station in Pedaso (12 km away from Montefiore dell‘Aso) at certain times if requested in advance.

The closest airports are Ancona(88 km) and Pescara (100 km). Alternatively you may fly to Rome where a Bus Service Rome to Pedaso can be organised by Yoga Italia. Flying to Bologna is also a direct flight from Dublin, after which a train can be taken to Pedaso. It is probable that you would have to change once, at either Ancona or Porto San Giorgio. Flights from Dublin to Bologna and Dublin to Rome are currently available at very good rates. Pick-ups from Pedaso are most readly organised by Yoga Italia. Again see www.yogaitalia.de for details.
