Yoga For Kids

About our Childrens Yoga Classes

At Ashtanga Yoga Dublin, we offer kids yoga classes for children aged between 6 and 10 years. Our daughter Grace is now 11 years old, (and has since moved on to our evening pre-teen/teen class) but was very keen to start practice in a fun environment with other kids – it’s not as much fun practising only with adults!! This prompted me to start teaching yoga for children during the summer of 2013. Since then, we have had a weekly Wednesday class during school term.

Kids Yoga classes take place on Wednesdays at 3pm. Classes run for 45 mins.

  • The classes are for children aged 6 – 10 years.
  • Our next 6 week block of classes will run from Wed Nov. 7th to Wed Dec 12th 2018.
  • The cost of the 6 week term is €60 with a discount available for siblings.

    Kids Yoga – Interesting and Fun!

    From the time children start school, they are often required to sit in chairs for several hours each day. This alone has a big impact on their flexibility (unfortunately not in a positive way!). Our aim in children’s yoga classes is to introduce the classical postures in an interesting and fun way. It is about capturing the imagination of children without worrying too much about making perfect shapes in the asana (Postures).

    We just want to get kids touching their toes and bending their backs with ease (using their bodies in a correct and safe manner). It’s hard to believe that our kids can experience inflexibility at such young ages but we see it every day and it’s our goal to help kids remove any blocks that have already manifested in their bodies by focusing on breathing and moving in a fun way. We incorporate music, dance, games and art into the classes, as well as gently introducing meditation and relaxation techniques. We hope that our teaching leaves each child with a positive impression so that some might continue to practice over the years and reap the amazing benefits of yoga throughout their lives.

    It has been extremely rewarding to see the progress made by children in a relatively short time. Through repetition, the body becomes capable of moving into positions that may not previously have been possible. We assist children to build strength as well as flexibility and encourage them in a supportive way to face new physical challenges.
